Start with “Nnọọ”
Nnọọ is a welcome. Say it when someone arrives, when you greet a visitor, or when you want another person to feel at home. Language does more than pass information. It tells people there is a place for them.
Make room for a conversation
“Kedu?” is a familiar way to ask how someone is. Give the answer your attention. “Daalụ” means thank you, a small expression that belongs in everyday life, from a family conversation to a neighbour’s kindness.
Learn together, without embarrassment
Igbo has regional varieties, and the words people use may differ between families and communities. Ask a relative how they say something. Practise one greeting today, and pass it to someone younger. You do not need perfect fluency to begin.
